ABOUT ME
Hi, my name is Josie.
I am an artist, illustrator, muralist, and visual arts teacher living in Portland, OR.
I received my B.A. in Art from California Lutheran University (2016), and my Teaching Credential in K-12 Visual Art from San Diego State University (2018).
I fell for faces and bodies during my first life drawing classes and I have been primarily creating figurative works ever since. I like to create form by layering areas of hatching and contour lines. It's a meditative process that feels a lot like constructing a jigsaw puzzle. My portraits usually fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum between realistic and illustrative, and I enjoy playing with line, color, and pattern to explore the boundaries between those two extremes.
Currently, I serve as the Assistant Director of Education at One River School of Art + Design in Lake Oswego, OR, where I teach visual arts classes to Kindergarten - Adults.
When I'm not at work, you can find me at home making art, playing music, or exploring nature with my partner Lindsey and our cat Merv.
